Becky's Adventures KY Part 4

Sunday we stopped in at Boonesborough, Ky and visited the actual site where Daniel Boone led a group of people to build a fort. There is a marker on the original site, but they built a recreation of it up the hill from it.
There were demonstrators in every cabin. It was very enjoyable. One of them told Dad because of my age he was going to have to pay a large dowry to entice a man to mary me and that my skirt would have been way to short for the time period. The picture of the house belonged to a lockmaster. They built the locke on the river and the house in the 1930's also a project of the ccc. The lockemaster had to let the boats in and out, and in exchanged got to live in the house with his 10 children. So they were a little better off than most people during the depression. The house contains the original furniture donated by the family, including a detailed journal of the man who ran the locke.
